ADOPT!  DON'T BUY WHEN EVER POSSIBLE !

Why do we have so many guinea pigs for adoption?

The number one reason guinea pigs are surrendered is "loss of interest, or allergies!"

Because typically guinea pigs are bought from local stores at 4 weeks old and at six to twelve months old the kids have lost interest in them and the parents are not prepared to be responsible for the guinea pigs after that point.  So they are dumped into local animal shelter. At these shelters they sit because no one thinks to look for them there. And they often face euthanasia.  That is why our organization was created.

Working with Denver Metro Shelters we take these guinea pigs in, assessing their personalities and behaviors working to find them a good permanent caring home. Dogs and Cats pack animal shelters and we understand why. Is it that far a stretch to realize the same thing is going on for small animals? Then these small animals sit.  CCI is the only guinea pig shelter in Colorado, servicing Wyoming, Kansas and some parts of California. We are donation driven organization. We are making the most of our money, helping over 3888 guinea pigs in the last seven years. Again, it is not about how many we have placed, but the quality of homes they are placed into.

Guinea pigs are wonderful pets. They very rarely bring baggage with them from their former homes. They bond at any age, 4 weeks or 4 years it is the personality of the animal that makes the bond.  Guinea pigs live very much in the now, and not in the past. They are easy to re-bond with a new family in most cases. They are great because they do not require walks, their cages are easily cleaned, they are intelligent, snuggle and identify with owners very quickly. They are trainable, and adorable. They are least likely to bite.

"Time to make a difference!"

CCI has been lucky to have placed over 3888 guinea pigs since 1999. YOU made that possible. YOU made a difference one guinea pig at a time and thank you. Any one can go to the pet store to buy a guinea pig, but YOU didn't.

THANK YOU!
